Like many of you, I’ve spent the last week or so reflecting back on my year and beginning to visualize what I want to see and more importantly, who I want to be in the new year. Now first, let’s give credit where credit is due…2016 was an amazing year. I was promoted at work, moved in with my boyfriend and was fortunate to travel to new and familiar places, both here in the States and abroad, just to name a few.
Now don’t let me fool you…there have been vallies to every mountain I climbed, just like there is an unphotographed dark memory for every happy and “perfect” picture on Facebook. But let me assure you, that it has been the combination of all of 2016’s experiences and opportunities (both the highs and the lows) that have brought me to where I am today and have fueled me for the year ahead. My tank is more full than it has been in a long time, but I want more. 2016 may be coming to an end, but I feel like I’m just getting started.
If you couldn’t tell from the title, this is a new year’s resolution. But to me, this is so much more…it is an experiment. During my week of reflection, it became clear to me that it was time to take my ideas out of the vault and do more than just think or talk about them, but live them. And this blog…I’ve wanted to do one for awhile now, but I thought it (and you) would help hold me accountable as the year goes on and life “appears” to get in the way of what I’ve set out to achieve…now that’s an oxymoron if I ever saw one.
So this experiment…it really is like science, where I’ll be using a variety “of techniques for investigating phenomena, acquiring new knowledge and correcting and integrating previous knowledge” in order to achieve BALANCE. I have a plan and good intentions, but I have no idea what the outcome will be or what it is I will be writing about at the end of 2017. That is why this is a blog and not a published book. But one thing I do know is I am confident in my plan that it will result in forward progress, positioning me to reevaluate at the end of 2017 and set sail with a new trajectory for 2018, and so forth.
Over the next year, I will be on a journey to find BALANCE in all aspects of my life and I invite you to join or even set out on your own journey alongside of me. There are many books and articles out there with tips and advice on how to do this, but at some point you have to put the book down and give it a try to figure out what works best for you. So my starting point was defining the 8 areas of my life that I believe to make up the equation of achieving BALANCE. These are very personal and I believe each individual has their own equation with their own set of variables.
In no particular, but somewhat intentional, order, my equation to achieving BALANCE =
#Self + #Food&Fitness +#Sleep&Beauty + #Spirituality + #Relationships + #Career + #Passions&PastTimes + #Adventure
My first few posts will be creating a baseline by defining what each of these mean to me and what they consist of in the present day. Overtime, I anticipate (and hope) they evolve as I do and this blog will serve as a measure of the progress and growth I experience over the next 365 days.
